What is the Full Form of ATA (PATA)?

ATA(PATA) Full Form is ATA - Advanced Technology Attachment or PATA - Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment. It is abbreviated from Serial a computer bus interface  links host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives optical drives and solid drives. ATA succeeded the older Parallel ATA (PATA) standard offering several advantages over the older interface reduced cable size. It is  cost seven conductors instead of 40 or 80 native hot swapping faster data transfer through higher signaling rates and more efficient through an optional queuing protocol.

SATA host adapters is devices communicate via a high-speed serial cable over two pairs of conductors. In contrast, parallel ATA  used a 16-bit wide data bus with many additional support and control signals all operating at much lower frequency. It has replaced parallel ATA in consumer desktop and laptop computers, and has largely replaced PATA in new embedded applications. PATA remains widely used in industrial and embedded applications that use Compact Flash storage is designed around the legacy PATA standard. The SATA-IO group collaboratively creates, reviews, ratifies, and publishes the interoperability specifications, the test cases and plugfests and As with many other industry compatibility standards, the SATA content ownership is transferred to other industry bodies primarily the INCITS T13 subcommittee ATA, the INCITS T10 subcommittee (SCSI), a subgroup of T10 responsible for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS).

The length of the cable in PATA can go up to 18 inches,  and Because of this limit, the technology normally appears as an internal computer storage interface. The least expensive interface for this application and  It has largely been replaced by SATA in newer systems. The term IDE, or "Integrated Drive Electronics," is also used to refer to ATA drives. Sometimes (to add extra confusion to people buying hard drives), ATA drives are labeled as "IDE/ATA." Technically, ATA uses IDE technology, but the important thing to know is that they refer to the same thing. Limiting the use of interface for internal computer storage only. For many years it remained the first choice of the hardware manufacturers, due to its low cost and reliable speed. An interface can provide a speed of upto 100 Mbps and ATA was preceded by Serial ATA in 2003. With the introduction of Serial ATA, Basic Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) was renamed as Parallel ATA (PATA).
